Day 1: Ha Giang – Bac Sum Pass – Heaven Gate – Twin Mountain – Quan Ba – Yen Minh – Tham Ma Pass – Lao Xa Village – Dong Van
Bac Sum Pass is one of the four most beautiful and challenging mountain passes in Ha Giang. As we conquer this winding route, we’ll be treated to sweeping views of the lush green karst mountains set against the backdrop of a clear, crystal-blue sky.
Next, we’ll reach Quan Ba Heaven Gate, perched at 1,500 meters above sea level. From here, you’ll enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of Quan Ba Town, the dramatic mountain landscapes below, and the famous Twin Mountains.
The Twin Mountain (also known as Co Tien Mountain) stands out with its unique and enchanting shape, resembling the breasts of a fairy. Its appearance changes with the seasons, as if the fairy is dressing in different outfits throughout the year.
Along the journey, we’ll take breaks to soak in the peaceful beauty of the rice paddies and other stunning natural sights. One highlight is the renowned Tham Ma Pass—often considered the most thrilling and dangerous pass in Ha Giang. With a sheer cliff on one side and a deep abyss on the other, it promises adrenaline and awe in equal measure. After this daring ride, you’ll be rewarded with the sight of vibrant cornfields cultivated by local farmers.
We’ll also visit Lao Xa Village, a small settlement nestled in a rugged, rocky landscape and home to the H’mong ethnic group. Despite modern changes, Lao Xa has preserved its untouched natural scenery and the rich cultural identity of its people. In spring, the village transforms into a dreamy scene, blanketed in white plum blossoms and pink peach flowers.
Overnight in a homestay in Dong Van.
DAY 2 Dong Van – Thien Huong village – LoLo Chai -Dong Van.
After visiting the Moon Rock Field, we will start our journey to Lo Lo Chai Village. If today is Sunday, we will be able to visit the colorful and radiant local market in Dong Van. If not, we will go straight to Lo Lo Chai Village, a place dominated by the Lo Lo, who live by the Vietnam – China borderline. Here, we will spend some time strolling around the village to enjoy the scenery.
After visiting Lo Lo Chai Village, we will start our journey to the Northernmost Point of Viet Nam. This is a milestone, engraved with the words: “The northernmost point; Lung Cu – Dong Van. Lung Cu 23˚ 22′ 59″ North latitude – 105˚ 19′ 21″ East longitude”.
After having lunch, we will go back to Dong Van and then go to see Thien Huong Village – one of the ancient villages in Ha Giang. This is the home for Giay and Nung people, living the life surrounded by the gigantic mountains of the Dong Van Geopark. This is also one of the villages that share the border with China. Here, we will spend time walking around the village, make friends with the locals and learn about their lifestyle.
Thien Huong Village – Dong Van: 30 km
At the end of the day, we will go back to Dong Van at about 5.00 and spend the night there.
Day 3: Dong Van – Ma Pi Leng pass – Meo Vac – M-shaped Curve – Mau Due – Ngoc Long- Du Gia
Ma Pi Leng Pass, one of the four greatest mountain passes in Vietnam, leaves a lasting impression on everyone who lays eyes on it. Perched between 1,200 and 1,400 meters above sea level, the pass offers a thrilling ride along rugged cliffs, with breathtaking views of the winding Nho Que River far below. Beyond its dramatic natural beauty, Ma Pi Leng also holds historical significance—it was once a key part of the Ho Chi Minh Trail, used to transport vital supplies during the war.
After crossing Ma Pi Leng Pass, we’ll spend about 1.5 hours walking from the Young Volunteers Monument, trekking across the awe-inspiring Death Cliff and White Cliff toward Panorama Viewpoint. Along the way, we’ll not only take in the sweeping landscapes but also experience the local way of life up close, passing by villagers and remote hamlets tucked into the mountains.
At Panorama, we’ll hop back on the bikes and continue our ride toward Mậu Duệ, taking time to appreciate the towering karst formations and the iconic M-shaped Curve that winds through the landscape. Upon arriving in Mậu Duệ, we’ll stop for a well-deserved lunch.
After lunch, our journey continues toward Ngọc Long, where we’ll have a unique experience floating on a bamboo raft down the peaceful river, followed by a refreshing dip in a natural swimming pool. We’ll also explore an amazing cave nearby, full of mystery and wonder. From there, the road leads us toward Gia, where the scenery is nothing short of magical.
As we ride through this area, you’ll see rice paddies cultivated by the Tày people, nestled between layers of mist-covered mountains. The peaceful surroundings offer a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle—bringing us deep into the arms of nature.
Around 4:00 PM, we’ll arrive and settle in before heading out to explore the local waterfall, the perfect way to unwind after a day full of discovery and adventure.
Day 4: Du Gia – Duong Thuong – Thai An – Thuan Hoa – Ha Giang
On this day, we begin our journey back to Ha Giang. After riding for about 10 kilometers, we’ll arrive at the peaceful Duong Thuong Valley, where you can pause to breathe in the crisp mountain air and take in the serene natural surroundings.
From there, the route leads us through lush forest trails, where we’ll be surrounded by vibrant greenery and tranquil landscapes. It’s the perfect chance to truly connect with nature and admire the beauty around us. We’ll stop for lunch in Thai An, a quiet spot to relax and recharge.
Although this stretch of the journey is relatively short, it offers some of the most breathtaking views of the towering mountains. As you glance over the edge of the cliffs, you’ll be mesmerized by the sight of the peaks glowing in the sunlight, wrapped in a gentle mist—an image that will stay with you long after the ride.
In Thuận Hòa, we’ll visit the Lùng Pù Waterfall, a hidden gem surrounded by untouched nature. It’s a refreshing and peaceful stop that showcases the region’s raw beauty.
After taking in the waterfall, we’ll continue our ride toward Hà Giang City, where we expect to arrive by 3 or 4 PM, wrapping up a scenic and memorable journey through the northern highlands.
